Darkness

in the dark
in the dark is where you say you are
you are there and there is no way out
you search for something
anything
you find nothing
only coldness
freezing and alone in what seems
an unending tomb to which the only end
is death
turning
following paths
into unknown and uncharted waters
but it is dark
and you know not where you go

nor do you know that
I am there too
in the dark
right beside you
you can't see me
nor can I see you
I can feel you
I can hear your heartbeat
I feel your warmth or listen for your breaths
I cry when you cry
it pains me that you suffer so
I want so badly to hold you
to comfort you
to stop whatever is tormenting you
though I also know not where i am
or where I am going
or how to escape

I want to help you
you are in more pain than I
you have been deeper in this pit than I
you're almost out
so close 

I wish I could touch you and point you the right way
but I do not
for I fear then I would lose you
and I would be left to find my own way
my own way out of the darkness
then I would be alone
alone and cold in this world
